The Blue Rock Golf Course in South Yarmouth will host its 13th annual Turkey Shoot-Out & Food Pantry Drive on Nov. 18 and 19, joining forces for the sixth year in a row with Create the Good, a nonprofit group started in 2010 by a group of Yarmouth parents to place a food pantry in every Dennis-Yarmouth school.
Golfers will play the course at Blue Rock during the two-day event, with a portion of their entry fees donated to Create the Good, with the opportunity for golfers to win turkeys in closest-to-the-pin contests.
The public is encouraged to drop off canned goods, nonperishable food items and grocery store gift cards to the Blue Rock pro shop throughout the weekend for volunteers to create Thanksgiving dinner bags. Last year, Thanksgiving dinners were provided for 94 local families; the goal this year is 125 dinners. Any extra donations will be used to fill last-minute requests and stock the pantry shelves.
Golfers have already filled the tournament for Saturday, but there are still openings for the Nov. 19 tournament. For information on donations and registering for golf, call Blue Rock at 508-398-9295.
